One more time, Trump has manufactured a crisis then secured victory by arbitrarily declaring that crisis over. This Great Wall of Bullshit approach to international relations has been remarkably successful so far, at least politically.

There are people and institutions that benefit from terrorism. Terror tactics undermine free markets, trade, tourism, pluralism, and every institution that thrives on trust-based interactions. An atmosphere soaked in indiscriminate violence is fantastic for authoritarians. Unlike the British government in the 90’s, Donald Trump fosters terrorism because it furthers his political goals.
We can debate the relative merits of a potential strategy or policy all day long, but it just doesn’t matter anymore. Whether you’re talking about health care, tax reform, Syria, or anything else, all policy questions have been rendered irrelevant by Trump’s win.
